Congratulations, Kenneth Samet, and your staff! MedStar Health was selected as a “Top 50 Best Performing Systems in Quality & Efficiency”. Five measures of performance were used: mortality, complications, patient safety, length of stay and use of evidence based practices.

National Rehabilitation Hospital’s CEO Edward Eckenhoff has announced he will retire October 1. The good news, Ed will continue to serve on several board committees. We need you, Ed.

Congratulations to Kimberly Russo recently promoted to COO at George Washington University Hospital.

Inova Fairfax Hospital is among America’s Best! Health Grades America ranks Inova Fairfax Hospital among the nation’s Top 50 Hospitals (based on mortality and complication rates in 26 common procedures over 6 years). Congratulations to the entire staff and its leaders. L. Reuven Pasternak, CEO.

Congratulations to Brooke Grove Retirement Village’s volunteer, Bob Knapp. Bob volunteered 1838 hours in 2008 and was recently honored at the 2009 Volunteer Appreciation banquet.

A new program implemented just one year ago (August, 2008) at Walter Reed Army Medical Center has reduced MRSA infections by 5%. Way to go WRAMC!

HCNCA welcomes Richard Goldberg, the new President at Georgetown University Hospital.

The Council’s highest award is the “Matthew F. McNulty, Jr. Award”. Dr. McNulty was Chancellor Emeritus at Georgetown University Medical Center, a HCNCA Executive Committee member and a longer supporter of the Council.

HR Directors

The Healthcare Council’s HR Directors will meet this fall to review the 2009 Wage & Salary Surveys, discuss improvements and details on timing the 2010 surveys.

CEO/Trustee Luncheon Rescheduled

The third HC CEO/Trustee luncheon is normally held in September. This year in anticipation of progress on healthcare reform, we’ve decided to held the luncheon in early November. This change will enable us to better analyze the decisions made on Capitol Hill and the short and long impact. The speaker will be selected around the topic of the latest on healthcare reform.
