2007 Matthew McNulty Award
The Council’s highest award established in 1997 annually honors significant contributions to the healthcare field. This year’s recipient was the first presented to an area CEO. Council Executive Committee member Omega Silva, M.D. presented the award speaking of the many accomplishments of this year’s McNulty Award recipient, Malene Davis, President & CEO, Capital Hospice.
Ms. Davis has been devoted to improving care and spent twenty plus years serving a small volunteer-run hospice in West Virginia. That hospice now Hospice Care Corporation is the largest in the state. Ms. Davis along this journey earned her masters in nursing and business. Ms. Davis is now CEO of our area’s Capital Hospice. She is a nationally recognized expert on hospice and palliative care issues and assumes leadership responsibilities in many professional organizations. Ms. Davis has distinguished herself with a busy speaking schedule and has taught courses on nursing, gerontology and care of the elderly. Ms. Davis has increased the outreach of Capital Hospice and turned around the organization’s finances in just over a year with excess funds building the Capital Hospice Institute for Education and Leadership, training healthcare professionals in hospice and palliative care. She’s involved in numerous community activities and inspires those around her to get involved. Capital Hospice operates one of only a few fellowship programs that provide physicians with training.
Ms. Davis demonstrates all the fine character traits recognized in Matthew McNulty and is deserving of the Council’s highest honor, The Matthew F. McNulty, Jr. Award, in recognition of her significant contributions to the healthcare field.
