Dimensions Health System has a new permanent leader. Dunlop Ecker has been named the President & CEO. Healthcare Council Executive Committee member and Chairman of the Dimensions' Board of Directors, Calvin Brown, says, "It became clear that Dunlop has the experience, expertise and knowledge of our region's healthcare system necessary to guide Dimensions through a challenging period and a bright future."

Congratulations, Dunlop! Number one priority identifying a "new, stable source of revenue".

There's more at Dimensions. Congratulations Douglas Shepherd recently (June 1) named President, Laurel Regional Hospital. Doug would like to see a senior housing complex and a women's health program in the next few years. Also in the short term recruitment of new physicians.

Congratulations also to LRH's Carol Cawthorne promoted to Director of Ancillary Services and Helen Marie Waters promoted to Chief Nursing Officer.

Frederick Memorial Hospital's $103 million expansion should be done in 2006. The new ER and some surgical suites have already opened. The 157-room patient tower includes space for deliveries, pediatric care and behavioral health. New administrative and support services are planned.

Holy Cross' expansion is a bit over budget but expected to be completed by the end of summer. CEO Kevin Sexton says, "Holy Cross hasn't missed a beat", during the construction. Included will be a 155,000 sq. ft. renovation and 200,000 sq. ft. of new space. New 520-car garage, two new patient floors, expanded ER, critical care services and a multi-level physician specialty wing. Also a new concourse and a professional and community education center.

Howard University Hospital has opened a $1.75 million primary care and intervention center for people living with AIDS. The new center for Infectious Disease Management and Research will include onsite patient case management, counseling, testing specialty services and referrals.

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital has opened a new oncology unit. The five-bed unit provides a variety of cancer services including diagnosis, treatment and a Family Resource Center for education.

Montgomery General Hospital has a new dermatologist, Paula Burelly, M.D. She is offering free skin cancer screenings from July 15 through August 30 by appointment. Space is limited. Contact 301-260-9202 to schedule an appointment. The Council welcomes Dr. Burelly and Montgomery General Hospital's commitment to the community.

Prince William Health System plans an outpatient health center. A 60-100,000 sq. ft. on a new 38-acre plot of land. Ground breaking is planned in early 2006.

Walter Reed Army Medical Center plans a $10 million rehab in the District. The new 29,000 sq. ft. amputee training center will open in early 2006 to accommodate 300 patients a week.
